A perm, short for "permanent wave," is a chemical hair treatment that transforms straight hair into curly or wavy hair. Perming should be done by a professional hairstylist, as it involves the use of chemicals and precise techniques. Attempting to do a perm at home can lead to undesirable results and potential damage to your hair. If you're interested in getting a perm, here's an overview of the process:

BONPLEX TIPS TO MAINTAIN CURL PERMED HAIR

Maintaining curl permed hair requires special care to keep your curls looking their best. Permed hair is more vulnerable to damage, so it's essential to follow a specific hair care routine to preserve the curls and keep your hair healthy. Here are some tips for maintaining curl permed hair:

Gentle Shampooing:

  • Wash your hair with lukewarm water. Hot water can strip the hair of natural oils and cause frizz.
  • Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp, avoiding rough scrubbing, which can disrupt the curls.
  • Apply conditioner to the lengths and ends of your hair, and use a wide-toothed comb to detangle, starting from the tips and working your way up.

Don't Overwash:

  • Avoid washing your hair daily. Permed hair tends to be drier, and overwashing can lead to further dryness and frizz. Aim for 2-3 times a week or as needed.

Air Dry or Diffuse(Optional):

  • Allow your hair to air dry whenever possible. If you need to blow dry, use a diffuser attachment on a low heat setting to prevent damage and maintain the curl shape.

Avoid Heat Styling:

  • Minimize the use of heat styling tools, such as straighteners or curling irons, as they can damage the curls and lead to breakage.

Apply Leave-In Conditioner:

  • Use a leave-in conditioner or curl-enhancing product to help define and maintain your curls. Apply it evenly to damp hair.

Scrunching and Twisting:

  • To enhance your curls, scrunch your hair gently with your hands when it's still damp. You can also twist individual curls to help them retain their shape.

Silk or Satin Pillowcase:

  • Switch to silk or satin pillowcases to reduce friction and minimize the risk of frizz.

Nighttime Care:

  • Before bed, loosely tie your hair up with a silk scrunchie to prevent tangling.

Deep Conditioning:

  • Use a deep conditioner or hair mask regularly to provide extra moisture and keep your curls soft and manageable.

Avoid Harsh Chemical Treatments:

  • Be cautious about using harsh chemicals on permed hair, as they can weaken the curls and cause damage.

Protect When Swimming:

  • Before swimming in pools, protect your hair from chlorine by wetting it and applying a leave-in conditioner. You can also wear a swim cap.
